How All-Wood Kitchen and Bath Cabinets are Made
Learn how professional cabinet makers construct all-wood kitchen cabinets. From milling to staining, this cabinet factory video tour will show you how quality kitchen cabinets are made.
How All-Wood Cabinets are Made
At the loading dock at HIS Cabinetry, hundreds of boards are delivered from the mill.
The lumber is inspected for defects like warping, checks and knots. Sub-standard boards are rejected or used for smaller components.
The boards are then measured to maximize the use of material and assure consistent grain pattern throughout project.
Now the boards are ready to be cut to size using table saws.
Frequent measuring by cabinet maker assures accuracy and reduces waste.
Once all the boards for a project are cut to size, their edge detail is created using a router.
A computer guided router creates mortise and tenon joints on the ends of the door panel components. This will give the door added strength and keep sections aligned once assembled.
In another part of the shop, craftsmen assemble the drawers. Their screw heads are hidden in a recessed area to conceal them and keep them from interfering with smooth operation.
The assembled components are sanded by hand to assure a perfectly smooth surface with no blemishes.
The completed cabinet doors and drawers are stained to the customer’s specifications and sprayed with a protective finish. Once assembled, these cabinets are ready to become part of a beautiful and durable kitchen that’ll last for decades.
